As an alluring alternative to mainstream Halloween entertainment, the BBC Concert Orchestra weaves scintillating tendrils of sound with an unforgettable psycho-dramatic musical tapestry.
Plunge into the nightmare world of a fragile woman, whose only link with reality is the telephonic voice of her ex-lover... Poulenc's classic psychodrama La voix humaine is based on a play by enfant terrible Jean Cocteau, director of cult film Orphée.

Truly ecstatic experience to sing this piece with the orchestra. This time I felt as if the players were listening so intensely to the unfolding of Elle's drama. The orchestra were caressing my voice, gently caring it, surrounding and cushioning it through the ups and downs of her suffering. I felt that the audience were listening to every word and being touched deeply by it all. I was so happy at the end. The extraordinary effort of concentration during the performance, the constancy of being true to the character filled my heart with endless joy. After her suffering I let her go and wanted to dance, jump and fly-that is how joyous I was.
Few very special moments followed: my husband kneeled in my dressing room and cried to express how proud he was. Almost entire orchestra, including the conductor came after to express their reaction and to give hugs and kisses. The first violinist said he could hardly hold his tears while playing and I got great feedback from the audience and many friends who came.
Amongst all the tragedy of deteriorating emotional state of mind of Elle and the difficulties that music presented, the performance was life on the radio and I had a Madonna mic attached to my face.
